Nigeria’s Spiritual Problem Is Too Much Complains—Uti Nwachukwu

Click for Full Image Size Former Big Brother Africa (BBA) winner, Uti Nwachukwu has warned Nigerians to stop complaining about situations in the country. According to him, the social media platforms seem to make an impact to our country today, whether negative or positive. See what he wrote:

NIGERIA- PLS STOP COMPLAINING AND START APPRECIATING! GRATITUDE CANNOT BE OVER EMPHASIZED.
I think one major bane of the success of our country is SOCIAL MEDIA! Ironically this same tool has been used to develop so many countries including ours to an extent- but would you call it negative or positive …. (Search your heart and answer).

You see everything that is happening now has happened before and will happen again! Life is very spiritual and all answers are in the Bible on your coffee table. Before I start please don’t get me wrong o. I’m no saint. I’m a sinner like everyone else and thats why I love Jesus with a passion because he came for, died for and saved people like me not the perfect ones out there who have no sin.
Now I speak.

The Major SPIRITUAL PROBLEM we have as a nation is COMPLAINING!! NAGGING!! BICKERING!!! I’m sorry to break the news to you but this country will NEVER GET BETTER until we STOP!!! Look at the bible, after the Israelite got delivered from Egypt and they were tested in the wilderness, what did they do? Complain!!! And what happened…you know the rest !!

We keep praying for Nigeria to get better but the minute God sends a representative to us and allows us to go thru a test, the COMPLAINING starts!!!

What spurred this Thoth in my head. Super Eagles! This is a team we had all become ashamed of after the 90s God obviously sent us Keshi and some players to redeem our image. After a lot of hard work and training we finally won the African Nations Cup! And we all sang praises (cue in deliverance from Egypt) Now we went to the World Cup and our first draw. The insults started!! We won the other game (cue in manna) the praises started again.

We lost the fell out of the tournament! And then the curses started again. now Keshi has resigned! (Cue in calamities suffered by Israelite in the wilderness). Some are so ungrateful and even saying “Let him go Jor!” “Who is he?” “Is he our God?” Smh. Nope he is not our God. But surely he was sent to lead and grow our team. God will not come down from his throne to help you! He uses people here on Earth!!! This is a huge setback for us especially at a time like this when we have little or no positive stories coming out from Nigeria.

This was one thing that painted us good in the eyes of the world. Oh well… Que cera cera right? …..Nigeria…..we are in trouble if his ingratitude continues! I once told a friend of mine who was loosing his head that : To truly appreciate God is to appreciate his vessels. Nigeria. Watch it! This is a warning from God about our country!!!

Have you ever wondered why the security crises lingers? Yes yes blame it on the leaders and flawed systems! Blame it on the terrorists, blame it on whoever and whatever! But hey. We are praying right? Joining hands right? So why is it still happening?… We have to be careful before God withdraws from this country!! GOD hates Pride and Ingratitude o!

I’m not campaigning for anyone but I remember how we all prayed for a leader for democracy, we Got OBJ. We abused and complained. Still God had mercy. We Got M.Yaradua. We talked and complained some more. Still more mercy..we got G.Jonathan! (Nobody forced you to vote! we came out in droves to truly vote! And we jubilated when he won!)

Now immediately the challenges started ..ghen ghen Nigerians used social media to bicker! Complain Insult!…it didn’t stop…more crises to test us..we complained!!! It just keeps getting worse meanwhile we are praying abi!!! Where is the praise? Where is the worship to God almighty? Where is the thanksgiving?! – did God say we won’t have challenges?? Even Jesus was tested right after he was elevated!!! Did he succumb??!!!

My dear Nigerians it’s not too late o!!! It’s not at all!! Let the GRATITUDE START NOW! Stop all negative talks and complaining! Pray for your Leaders! Support and Love them , PRAISE GOD IN EVERY SITUATION! STOP HYPOCRITICALLY ACCUSING And PUTTING EACHOTHER DOWN, IF WE DO NOT , THEN IM AFRAID GOD MIGHT JUST LEAD HIS PEOPLE OUT in HIs own way and then withdraw from the country. Let’s go back to God TRULY! With happiness, Joy, thanks giving and GRATITUDE. DELETE COMPLAIN FROM OUR VOCABULARY OOO!! and let’s watch things turn around for out country!

Like I said i am not a saint! Neither am I a prophet! And I know A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL START BY INSULTING ME AND ASKING ME IF ME SEF I NEVA COMPLAIN! Some might even Resort to calling me all sorts of names but weather you LIKE IT OR NOT YOU VOTED FOR ME IN 2010 and the streets went wild with jubilation when I won BBA ALLSTARS ! That clearly meant something!!just to Conclude, I’m just someone who is aware of How much God loves him and bathes him with favor grace mercy success good health peace of mind and other spiritual gifts which my close friends and family members are clearly aware of. Yes I loose it sometimes ( evident in some rants online) but yeh I’m not perfect and I never LET GO OF MY GRATITUDE. …LET US ALL LEARN TRUE SPIRITUAL GRATITUDE TO WHAT GOD HAS DONE FOR US.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA! WE SHALL RISE AGAIN LIKE THE PHOENIX IN EVERY SECTOR! STRONGER BETTER AND FULL OF LOVE AND APPRECIATION.

I am very proud of my son and all my children- Kubolor’s Dad Speaks

Kubolor

KubolorPastor James Owusu-Bonsu, leader of Awesome Grace Network (AGN) is the biological father of Wanlov the Kubolor, the Ghanaian rap musician with a special ability to generate controversy and get people talking about him for both good and bad reasons.
Pastor Owusu-Bonsu has told NEWS-ONE what he thinks about his son and also expressed optimism that the ‘gipsy musician’ would eventually end up as a man of God. Read the interview below:
Kubolor’s father is a Pastor! Quite unusual.
Well, all things are possible.
Did you give your son the name ‘Kubolor’ at birth? (Kubolor means vagabond!)
No. I did not give him the name, Kubolor. He picked that name by himself. I gave him the name, Emmanuel Owusu Bonsu.
Has he been a controversial person from childhood?
He has always been that way; very intriguing person. But what is interesting about him is that he is very consistent, very strict and very honest. I can tell you something about Kubolor’s honesty.
From childhood, when something got broken at home and you called the children to find out who broke it, he would step out and say ‘I, Emmanuel, I broke it’. Whether you would spank him or not, he would tell you the truth and run away.
I remember when he was in his final year in secondary school at Adisadel College; there was a time I had a call from the Headmaster, Mr. Kitson. He told me that there was a problem and one of the masters was demanding that Kubolor be sacked from the school.
But the headmaster and other staff would not agree because they believed in the story Kubolor was saying even more than what the master was alleging. They gave me several instances that the boys had done something wrong and Kubolor was the only one who would step out and speak the truth and confess even when there was some punishment at stake.
So in this instance, they listened to him, listened to the Teacher, and believed what Kubolor was saying. I was very touched by that testimony from the Headmaster of Adisadel College, Mr. Kitson.
As a father and pastor, how do you feel about the negative publicity your son attracts from critics who do not understand his style?
Well, I look at it with a different eye from the way the public would look at it. I believe and trust in God. And as I am serving God, I believe in God to take care of all my children. When I pray, I pray for them. When things are going that way I do not get worried but when I disagree with him, I call him and tell him the truth, that he should have done this in a different way. But I leave it to the hands of God.
But listen, let me tell you something. If you look at the history of mankind, there were people whose behaviour seemed bad but at the end they changed for the better. I believe that in the end, Kubolor, eventually, would turn into a pastor.
Are you proud of your son?
Yes, I am. I am very proud of him. I am proud of my children.
Are you aware he does not wear boxer shorts or briefs?
I am fully aware. It was not like that from his childhood. I do not know at what point he turned that way. But if that is how he feels comfortable and he does not walk around naked in public, I am okay and do not have any problem with that.
Tell me briefly about your church and your 1st July programme.
The July 1programme is called ‘Africa in Prayer and Praise of Our Maker’. It is a prayer and praise programme for all Africans resident in Ghana. We are taking advantage of the Republic Day to stand with Ghana in prayer because we believe that what Ghana needs is the intervention of God.
We need Godly wisdom in running the affairs of the nation because we have tried it by the wisdom of man and have failed. That should tell you that we need to look elsewhere at the Creator who created us. If we have tried all other things and they have failed, we need to turn to our Creator and ask Him for direction.
The Bible has hundreds of examples of how God has directed and led nations to success and that is what we would be praying to God for at the Accra Technical Training College on July 1. Admission is free.
Thanks for talking to us.
The pleasure is mine.

dbang-genevieve-1

dbang-genevieve-1Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji, has explained that her long absence in movie industry is as a result of poorly written scripts which she feels are not worthy for a professional character.

“I never called my industry bland and mediocre. Truth or not, they were NOT MY WORDS. As a person/writer, you can "assume" what you like about my thought process but DO not project those thoughts as "quotes" by me. It's distasteful, insensitive and quite unprofessional. It's insulting to those limited few working hard to make a difference in the industry. I am a product of Nollywood and my loyalty remains unshaken”

TROUBLE LOOMS FOR HONORABLE DINO MELAYE AS HIS SECOND MARRIAGE CRASHES

Click for Full Image Size DINO MELAYE AND HIS NEW WIFE WHEN THE GOING WAS GOOD
Honorable Dino Melaye needs little introduction to anyone who has kept tabs with happenings on the floor of the Federal House of Representatives between year 2007 and 2011. Hon. Dino Melaye represented Ijumu/ Kabba Bunu Federal Constituency.

While he was a member of the House of Representatives, he served in various committees including Information/ National Orientation where he was chairman Media/ Public Affairs, Communications and Industries.

During the 4years he was in the lower chamber, Hon. Melaye was very outspoken and a controversial member of the house. He spoke against the leadership of the House and this obviously cost him an indefinite suspension alongside a few other lawmakers during Dimeji Bankole’s time as speaker. Even after his bid to be re-elected failed, Hon. Melaye has continued to raise his voice against injustice and corruption in Nigeria.

However, the last may not have been heard of the Ex- Kogi Federal Lawmaker, as we learnt that he may not be having it smooth with his love-life at the moment.

His new wife, Alero Falope whom we learnt is 5months pregnant reportedly abandoned their matrimonial home after suffering severe beating from the controversial lawmaker.

Though the immediate cause of the acrimony that resulted in the ‘ Unmanly act’ is yet to be established, the marriage of less than a year, we learnt is threatened and Hon. Melaye’s profile as a reputable individual is fast going with the wind with public disclosure of the happenstance.

It would be recalled that Tokunbo Fabiyi, the first wife of Hon. Melaye also dumped him last year over issue of battering. The union produced three kids.

I will remain single for the rest of my life – Mzbel

Mzbel

MzbelSinger and showstopper, Mzbel, says that she is going to remain single for the rest of her life as she is convinced that marriage is not meant for her.
“I am not looking forward to marriage because I do not want to feel dedicated to anyone. I want to be my own woman and infact, I am enjoying being a single parent,” she told Showing in an interview last Monday.
“I have no problem being in a relationship; infact, I am currently dating but marriage is a no go area for me. I am a hard working woman with three kids and all this while, I have been doing everything on my own so I don’t see the reason why I would allow myself to be pinned down all in the name of love and marriage. I want to be a free bird,” she said.
Forever single and free - Mzbel
In an answer to why she had reached that decision she said, “it is simple, I do not want any one to disturb mv peace. You know as soon as you get married, it’s like there are some rules that you need to follow and I am not ready to abide by those rules.
“I nearly got married this year but I declined after thinking through and realising that marriage was not meant for me. I don’t want to feel obliged to cook or do certain things for any man. With my current single mother status, as and when I feel like doing something, I do it and so far I love it”
Mzbel’s children, her own son and two adopted others, she said, were also part of her decision. If I get married, my children will not get the best of me as I will have to divide my attention. My children need me more and I would like to dedicate the rest of my life to them so that they do not have to share me with anyone,” she said.
“Moreover, I have seen how terrible some marriages end, some to the extent of the woman committing suicide and knowing how fragile I am, I do not want to find myself in any of such situations. The bottom line is, I am an independent woman and getting married will spoil things. I am happy the way I am,” she stated.
In response to what people may think of her decision, she said, “I don’t care what people are going to say, I have listened to people on several occasions and it did not help me so I have decided to turn a deaf ear to what they will say. I have reached a point where what matters to me is how I feel and I am focusing on doing what will make me happy.”
Commenting on her seemingly stalled music career, Mzbel attributed her delay in bouncing back soon after delivering her baby to motherhood saying that it had been very difficult combing that with her music career.
“I have not been out yet because I am taking care of my son. I have nobody helping and it makes it difficult for me to go to the studio and record want to get everything right before 1 come out but I hope to come out very soon.”
Mzbel told Showbiz that her fans should still keep their fingers crossed and watch out for the new Mzbel with swag. “I have not forgotten my fans, I love them and I thank God for their lives. I am putting certain things in place and when I’m done, I will release my singles prolly before the end of this year.”
Mzbel, real name, Belinda Ekua Amoah, has in the past churned out hit songs such as Run Away, Saucy Girl, Yopoo, Bonnet, Awoso Me, Logoligi, San Bra, E Dey Be, Twe Ma Me Sweet, and San Bra,
She also has a awesome stage presence that has earned her lots of fans.

Her comments have angered a Nollywood movie director, Mac Collins Chidebe as the director is not happy with what she said about the industry, so he allegedly sent out the following statement

“Genevieve has just insulted the industry that made her who she is today and what effort has she made to help improve Nollywood? Those days in Enugu when Genevieve was growing in Nollywood, our movies were not rubbish; she has grown now, made money, fame, popularity etc. How much has she invested in this Industry that made her?"

"All the while she was busy waiting for Titanic scripts, Nollywood was trying their best to keep the flag flying waiting for her to come back and take the industry to the next level. Artistes should stop biting the fingers that fed them. We are watching and waiting for them to bring down heaven. We made them stars; we are waiting for them to come back and take the industry to the next level. Instead of blasting Nollywood, come and improve Nollywood”

How Nigerian Soldiers Killed A Redeemed Church Pastor

Many people were injured while a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God was shot dead by soldiers the in Opuraja community of Okpe Local Government Area in Delta State on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when the soldiers, led by a Captain, arrived in two Hilux vans to conduct investigation in the community; however, they were mobbed by the villagers, who misconstrued their motive. As a result shots were fired into the air to scare off the surging villagers.
According to eyewitnesses: “I saw the soldiers, they came to the community, asking for the chairman of the community and vigilante leader. They told them that there was robbery incident on Warri/Sapele expressway and asked them to reveal the identity of the person who owns the farm from which the bandits collected the wood they used to barricade the road.
“They told the soldiers that none of the community people owns farm there, but the military men accused them of not doing their job effectively. We saw the soldiers carry them away in their Hilux van and drove to the expressway, where they tied them against their vehicles until it was 6am.
“The youths mobilised and went to the scene where the community leaders were tied and when the army saw the crowd approaching, they started shooting indiscriminately...
“A group of soldiers in another Hilux van apparently heard the gunshots and rushed to the scene, that was how the pastor, who was standing by was shot and he died immediately.”

Confirming the report, the Orodje of Okpe kingdom, HRM, Mujakperuo Orhue 1, a retired army officer, said he is disappointment over the incident, adding that the soldiers should not have fired at unarmed citizens.

He was said to have waded into the matter to calm frayed nerves after the fracas.

A former Minister of Information, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire, who is from the community, also confirmed that one person was killed and some others were injured.
The late pastor was married with four children. So sad!

JAMB Finally Releases Admission Cut-Off Marks

Too many people have called me and send messages to ask about this cut-off mark issues. Anyway, after a long wait, the Federal Government, in consultation with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, has come out with the cut-off marks for 2014 admissions into universities and polytechnics.
The cut-off points were arrived at on Tuesday, after the 5th Combined Policy meeting on admissions to tertiary institutions, held at the National Universities Commission in Abuja. The cut off marks are...
180 for universities while polytechnics and colleges of education were put at 150, respectively.

The Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, who declared the meeting open, frowned on the inability of most tertiary institutions to utilise their admission quota. Wike, however, said in view of efforts to boost access, institutions which failed to utilise their admission quota for 2014 would be sanctioned.

The Registrar and Chief Executive of JAMB, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, in his presentation gave a statistical run down of candidates’ preference for tertiary education.

He said after the conduct of the 2014 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, candidates who applied for degree awarding institutions totalled 1,584,348, representing 70 per cent; National Certificate in Education applicants totalled 25,767 representing 1.6 per cent; National Diploma, a paltry 22,072, representing 1.3 per cent while National Innovation Diploma had just 46, representing 0.003 per cent.

Ojerinde complained that Nigeria’s educational system has consistently failed to embrace technical education in its quest for industrialisation, noting that the British system which Nigeria copied now award degree in all its polytechnics.

Bomb Blasts Rock Kaduna, Borno and Osun States; Kill Many

A suicide bomber, suspected to be a member of the terrorist sect, Boko Haram, early on Tuesday detonated an Impoverished Explosive Device at the Maiduguri Monday Market, killing about 17 persons. Sixty-nine persons were reportedly injured in the attack.

In Kaduna, an explosion occurred around the Asikolaye/Bakin Ruwa area, along the Kaduna western bypass, late on Tuesday. The casualty figure was not available as of the time of this report, witnesses however said many were killed and several injured. The explosion reportedly shattered the glass windows of some of the surrounding buildings.

Also in Ile-Ife, Osun State, a low-calibre bomb went off in the Onipetu area of the town around 4.00am but nobody was killed. The Osun State police said they deactivated another bomb before it detonated.
“They were grenades of low calibre. The first one exploded and the other was defused. It happened in an isolated place, so it did not kill nor injure anybody. We have visited the scene and we are investigating the matter.”
Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr. Ibrahim Maishanu, told Punch on Tuesday.

Information Officer, National Emergency Management Agency in Kaduna State, Halima Suleiman, confirmed the explosion to a Punch correspondents on the phone around 9.45pm.

The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Umar Shehu, confirmed the incident but said that the blast caused no death. He said only two people were injured.
Halima Suleiman explained that the bomb was planted near a makeshift shop where provisions were sold but that it was unlikely that the casualty figure would be high since many people had gone for prayers at a nearby mosque

She said, “We don’t have any casualty figure at the moment but rescue operations are still on. Our officials on the ground said there were pieces of shattered windows. We learnt that a bomb was placed near a container shop that sells provisions.

“We were told it occurred when most people had gone to pray. I will inform you of any development later.”

The attack on the market in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, occurred at about 8.30am and was said to have affected mostly petty traders and members of the youth vigilante group, popularly called Civilian JTF, in the area. Nine members of the vigilance group were said to have died in the attack.

The Chairman, Sector 3 of the youth volunteer group, Iliya Saidu, said the vehicle carrying the IEDs broke the mirror of a commercial motorcycle, popularly called Keke NAPEP, following which an altercation ensued and many people were attracted to the scene, including members of the Civilian JTF.

He said it was in the process of settling the quarrel with the Civilian JTF assisting to push the vehicle off the road that the explosive device went off.

“Nine of my members were killed by the blast; we were able to identify them through the vest we gave them and we have already deposited their corpses at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and the state specialist hospital,” Saidu said.

An eyewitness said that the explosives were packed inside a Peugeot 505 saloon car loaded with charcoal. The witness insisted that over 50 persons were killed in the early morning explosion.

Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima, who visited the scene of the blast, condemned the act, describing it as “un-Islamic, barbaric and inhuman.”

The governor thanked the Civilian JTF for their gallantry and assured them that N1m would be paid to each of the families of its deceased members.

Shettima, who also paid a visit to the Umaru Shehu Hospital and the Maiduguri Specialist Hospital to sympathise with the injured victims, directed the state Commissioner for Health to ensure that the victims were given the necessary care, promising that the government would settle all their medical bills and feeding.

Rep faults Imo Gov on registration of Northerners

Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon.  Suleiman Kawu Sumaila, has flayed  the recent decision by Imo State government to register all Northerners, residing  in the state.
The lawmaker, in a statement, said such actions was tantamount to making Northerners second-class citizens in their country.
“This kind of action is misguided, unfortunate and highly provocative. I strongly condemn it and warn those propagating it to desist from such paths of perdition.
“The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) guarantees freedom of movement for all citizens no matter their ethnic group, religion or section. Therefore, any attempt to compel our people to register in Imo or any other state for that matter is a gross infringement of their fundermental human right to liberty and violation of the constitution.
“I urge the state governments involved  to as a matter of urgency and necessity reverse the ill-informed decision in the interest of peace, stability and national unity,” he noted.
He maintained: “Nigerians need to be reminded  that there are millions of Igbo people in all nooks and crannies of the north who are engaged in genuine businesses. These are law abiding Nigerians who are our friends and we have for long continued to offer assistance to them on individual and collective basis. This relationship should not be destroyed at this point in time.
“It is on record that  many people from the South east region have been arrested in the acts of armed robberies and kidnappings ‎ in the north and other parts of the country but there was never a time when any of the northern state government compelled innocent Igbos to register in their states.
“If this decisions is not reversed however, we may not be left with any option than to met out similar treatment to their people living in our states. It is the responsibility of the Imo state government to forestall this by reversing its decision,” he cautioned.

Posers as Reps begin final legislative year

The House of Representatives last week began their final journey in the seventh session in a tepid fashion. Though the Speaker, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, tried to dress the occasion in a warm garb, the absence of most members of the chamber clearly told the message.
About 100 of the the 360 member-House were not present at the Wednesday plenary which was designed to mark off the new legislative year. The event would have taken place on Tuesday, the day the chamber reconvened after a two-week break but was shifted in solidarity with the Senate over the death of one of its members.
The scanty attendance caused unusual attention to be turned on the the chamber. Several unanswered questions were raised .
The Speaker, perhaps, reading the mind of many, tried to offer reason for the absence of most lawmakers. He hinged it on the fact that this was a political season. All through the session, he drew the focus of most people away from the vacant seats with his unending jokes.
But what charged the atmosphere most was his speech, which was meant to welcome the lawmakers back from their break. The speech captured some happenings in the country and the path that he would want the legislators to ply between now and May 2015.
“It is my honour and pleasure to welcome us all back from the short but hopefully refreshing recess, which marked the end of the third session of this Seventh Assembly. I hope the recess afforded you some much needed rest. I am conscious of the fact, as I have no doubt you all are, that this final year of our four year tenure is an election year.
“Consequently, the propensity for our members to prioritise politicking over our legislative mandate may be pretty high. It is in the light of this that I urge all of us to remind ourselves of the fact that Nigerians will expect full commitment with due diligence from us during the residue of our four-year mandate. Honorable colleagues,
having come this far, we cannot afford to abuse the confidence so overwhelmingly reposed in us by our people,” he declared.
According to him,  “There remains yet a lot of ground for us to cover.  Among the several Bills at various stages of consideration, we already have a pact with Nigerians to conclude work on some critical bills including, but not limited to: The Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB); Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill and Constitution Review. I am satisfied with the progression of these bills and I hereby restate our commitment to deliver on our promise to Nigerians on these vital bills.”
He got a deafening applause for the submissions . The ovation emboldened him to touch on other areas .
“Honorable colleagues, on Saturday 21st June 2014, the Independent National Electoral Commission conducted the governorship election in Ekiti State, South West Nigeria. Reports at our disposal indicate that there was remarkable improvement in the conduct of that election compared to other elections in the recent past. We commend INEC for their improved performance and urge them to continue along this path of progressive improvement going forward.
“ Worthy of note also is the new and much welcome culture and spirit of political contest exhibited by the contestants in the Ekiti election. Moments after INEC returned the winner at that election, the first runner-up candidate and incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi publicly congratulated the winner, Mr. Ayo Fayose and promised to ensure a smooth transition. Dr. Fayemi’s gracious concession was followed shortly thereafter by that of the second runners up, our own Hon. Bamidele Opeyemi.
“We highly commend this spirit of sportsmanship, which for long has been a scarce commodity in our polity. I am confident that when the history of political contests in Nigeria is written, these great Nigerians will be allotted a prominent line.
“Honorable colleagues, reports reaching us from the North East of Nigeria indicate that the wanton destruction of innocent lives and valuable property by the Boko Haram insurgents has not abated. And sadly, our Chibok girls are still in captivity. May I once again commend our armed forces and security agencies for their unwavering
effort, determination and sacrifice in tackling this unfortunate relentless assault on Nigeria’s peace and security. The fact remains, however, that we as a people and a government still need to do so much more to contain this menace and restore to our people the peace and peace of mind that have been so rudely snatched away from them,” Tambuwal stressed.
He added: “It is my view that now is the time to establish a Counter Terrorism Special Forces Unit as well as a National Counter Terrorism Centre for the Armed Forces. This should be accompanied by mass recruitment of personnel as well as the redeployment of existing
officers and men to this special unit so that they can immediately benefit from the professionalism and expertise being offered by the international community by way of training. It will also be necessary to formally bring on board the Youth Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in the proposed counter terrorism special training programme. When fully operational, this special forces unit shall be maintained in a state of permanent readiness to respond to terrorist incidents anywhere in Nigeria. These special forces will be exposed to continuous training to maintain their skill and readiness levels.
“The challenge of terrorism is real in our nation and we must adopt decisive and functional strategies to meet this challenge. This calls for a serious reappraisal of our existing security apparatus and operational strategies. We certainly cannot expect to rely on the security strategies of last century to effectively deal with the security challenges of today.”
The Speaker continued: “Honorable colleagues, for much of the last 15 years of democracy practice in the country, the Nigerian military has conducted itself most professionally by limiting itself to its Constitutional role. Recent events whereby the political leadership appears to be gradually pulling the military into partisan political roles are most worrisome. When the military becomes the preferred agency for clamping down on the media, for the grounding of aircraft and closure of airports and for forcibly restricting the freedoms of citizens, including elected officials, through arrests, detention and false imprisonment, then there is need for us to return to the drawing board of democratic governance.
“It is important for those of us holding public office in trust
for the people to be reminded that employing security reasons and security reports as justification for each and every governance infraction is not an acceptable practice in a democracy. On our part as a legislature, we would be betraying the hallowed doctrine of separation of powers and abdicating our constitutional duty of checks and balances if we decide to look the other way when tyranny rears its ugly head in our nation.”
The Speaker’s speech elicited a long drawn applause from members. However, beyond the thumb up , the concern of many is the shape the House will command in the next one year. The current low attendance, predictably, will worsen in months to come. Several members are more keen about playing the politics that can help them pick the tickets of their parties than attending plenary sessions.
Tambuwal may not like the situation but there is little he can do to alter it . The implication of this is that the public can only expect little or nothing from the chamber in the next legislative year. The fate of sensitive  bills like the PIB may  continue to hang in the balance .

Charleyboy Confronts Okorocha At Father’s Burial

rochas okorocha
The burial of the late Supreme court justice, Chukwudifu Oputa, was turned dramatic yesterday as the son of the late judge, Charles Oputa popularly known as Charleyboy humiliated the governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha during the memorial service at the Sacred heart catholic church, Oguta.
In fact Charleyboy   almost fought the governor for attempting to make his speech at the occasion.
The self-acclaimed “area fada” seemed ready to explode  all through the event  and Okorocha was unfortunate to be the first person to draw the musician’s ire as Charleyboy jumped up from his seat to snatch the microphone from the governor when he attempted to make his speech.
Even pleas by Rev-Fr Mathew Kukah, who officiated at the service, to Charleyboy to allow the governor make his speech fell on on deaf ears.
It would be recalled that Charleyboy walked out on the governor during the Imo State organized Day of Tribute in honour of the late Justice, when Okorochas climbed the podium to make his speech.
Angered by the musician’s antics, the governor Okorocha also stormed out of the church in the company of his commissioners and security aides.
Immediately after that, the crowd began to disperse for apparent fear of possible breakdown of law and order as security men battled to bring the situation under control.
Earlier in his sermon, Kukah lauded the virtues of the late justice of the Supreme Court, stressing that it might have taken a measure of greatness by the late Oputa to tolerate his son while alive.
He stated that the late Oputa was greatly concerned with the concept of justice and equity during his life time.

Eniola Badmus Denies Fighting Funke Akindele

1
Star actress, Eniola Badmus has denied ever fighting Funke Akindele, stating that the rumours that they are fighting have no grounds and are baseless. She also thanked her fans for voting her as the best actress at the just held City People Entertainment Awards in Ikeja.
” I am so excited to win this award because I never expected it, more so this is my first award ever. Even if I don’t win this award, I feel highly honoured to be recognised among others in the industry. It is not easy to be on the nominees’ list of City People, let alone winning it. I appreciate the organisers and my fans who took their time and money to vote for me. May God be with you all. I dedicate this award to my 83-year-old father, Badoosky, who at age 83 is still kicking . I am also giving this to my colleagues, like Femi Adebayo, Toyin Aimakhu, Funke Akindele and others.
“Let me say here that the rumour that I and Funke Akindele are in a serious cold war is not true. I can never engage in a fight with her because she is a strong pillar behind me in the industry. She brought me into the industry, and I have featured in so many movies through her before my name got registered in people’s minds. So, why should I be fighting with her? Moreso, what would have warranted that? We are not fighting, we are in good terms”.

Keshi, Yobo and Enyeama Quit Super Eagles

stephen-keshi-and-yobo

Nigeria Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi has resigned his appointment after leading the team to the second round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking after the Eagles were eliminated by France in the round of 16 match in Brasilia, Monday, the Delta State-born tactician said it was time to move on after leading his country’s national team to the Africa Nations Cup trophy last year and the ongoing World Cup in Brazil.
” Keshi said. “I have to go back to my family and face fresh challenges. “It’s a pity we lost. We did not deserve to lose. We can compete with any team. It was a good performance, but the way we lost was not good.
“There have been improvements, the players are very young and in two years, this group will be wonderful.
“Any loss is painful, be it first round or a friendly game. When you see your team playing good football and doing what you asked them to do, and all of a sudden it turns around and you lose the game. I don’t think we deserved to lose this way, but it’s part of football.
“We don’t want to start putting blame on one or two people. The blame is on the entire team. We play as a team. We win as a team. We lose as a team. So I don’t
Similarly, Super Eagles Captain, Yobo Joseph said he has had enough and can go no further as national team player. “I think I should give the younger ones the opportunity to forge ahead. I have nothing new to offer.”
Vincent Enyeama has also disclosed that the game against France could be his last appearance in a Nigerian shirt.
The Nigerian goalkeeper said after a 0-2 loss to the French national team in the second round of the Fifa World Cup on Monday that he will still have to “sit with my wife” before making a decision.
It is apparent the 31-year-old Nigerian custodian needs time to clear his head and take stock of what might have been at the World Cup in Brazil.
“At some point you need to just say may be I’ll take some years off, may be I’ll take some months off, may be I call it quit. May be I’ll sit with my wife and see what happens. Hopefully may be, may be it’s my last game,” Enyeama said after the match.
The Lille OSC goalkeeper played in all of Nigeria’s four matches at the World Cup.
He is one of the standout performers at the Mundial as he made 21 saves and kept two clean sheets in 360 minutes of World Cup football in Brazil.

2015: Useni, Gana, Wabara, Mantu, Ita-Giwa, others woo delegates to join NUF

mantu-horz
ABUJA — AHEAD of 2015 Presidential election, strong indications emerged, weekend, that there were moves to strengthen the political structure of President Goodluck Jonathan as he plans to declare for his re‑ election bid through a group called National Unity Forum.
At the weekend, the arrow heads of the forum, former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Gen. Jerry Useni; ex‑ Senate President, Adolphus Wabara; former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu; former Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters, Senator Florence Ita‑Giwa, among others gathered delegates to the on‑going National Conference for an interactive dinner at the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
The event which had in attendance delegates from across the six geo‑political zone was, according to the organisers, designed to further strengthen the unity of the country.
Nigeria yet to evolve into nation state —Wabara
Speaking at the event, Wabara and a delegate said despite the significance of Nigeria in the international scene, it was yet to evolve into a true nation.
Wabara, who spoke on the backdrop of last Wednesday’s bomb blasts at a shopping mall in Wuse II, however, hailed President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration for convening the national conference which has brought together prominent Nigerians to help proffer solutions to some of the current challenges bedevilling the nation.
According to him, “after one century of existence as geo‑political entity, Nigeria is yet to evolve into a nation state. Though it plays important roles in the international arena, it lacks the structures that present it as a developed nation.”
