Senate President, David Mark whose convoy was recently
attacked by unidentified gunmen in Imo State has lamented over the
recent bloody attacks in Benue state where hundreds of lives was killed.
Senator Mark who described those involved in the attacks as beasts and insane people said: “I
cannot understand why People have resorted to killing each other at
will without the slightest provocation. This is not part of us. This is
highly inhuman and unacceptable.”
David Mark in a statement
signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mumeh, advised Nigerians not
allow politics or other factors destroy the nation, “neither religion
nor politics nor ethnicity should put asunder to our cherished peace and
unity.”
The Senate President while urging security operatives to
put all their resources together to find a lasting solution and put an
end to these killings also sympathized with the government and people of
Benue state over the attacks and called for proactive approach in order
to avoid a repeat occurrence.
He also requested the National
Emergency Management Agency, NAMA, to help the Benue State Emergency
Management Agency to provide relief materials to the victims who were
taking refuge in various camps across the state.
Over the past
weeks Benue State has been a hot zone with fulani herdsmen armed with
sophisticated weapons attacking the state, killing many, burning houses
and displacing several from their homes.
